CCYC C5 Race Debrief

We tested the new reacher before racing, then switched back to our regular kite. A clear starting lane gave us a good opening, but inconsistent pointing and reach trim left gains available. The crew kept the maneuvers moving, stayed close downwind, and edged ahead at the finish to clinch the J/105 C Series.

The final tack opened a clear lane with plenty of room to leeward. That space let us watch approaching boats and turn down decisively when Dutch threatened to hook us. The start was smooth; the next improvement is timing that final tack confidently while preserving the lane and acceleration room.

Make the fast setup repeatable. The boat showed strong height and speed at moments; shared trim references and quicker preparation can make that performance available on demand.

The debrief does not establish exactly why the final-leg comeback worked, so the result should not be mistaken for proof of a particular tactical choice. Published results show Sivka fifth in section and first among the six J/105s racing. The C Series table also places Sivka ahead of every other J/105.

A narrow race win capped a successful C Series. The next step is to turn the crew's best moments of speed, trim, and teamwork into a more consistent whole race.
